Dyslexia Inclusive Classrooms (Primary)

Approximately one in ten students in our primary schools experience some form of learning challenge within their educational setting, with 3 to 5 percent having a Specific Learning Disorder such as Dyslexia.  These students require early identification and appropriate intervention using a systematic, explicit and cumulative approach to the instruction of reading and spelling, with high intensity and frequency. They also require specific classroom accommodations to help bypass the challenges associated with written expression, in the form of assistive technology to show case their potential.

Girls & ASD: Addressing the Hidden Difficulties (F-12)

Many people tend to believe that autism is predominantly male, but new research shows that girls affected by autism present with symptoms that are unique to this gender. Girls with autism can easily go unnoticed as they tend to mask their symptoms which means fewer girls are diagnosed and their needs not being met. In this workshop, participants will be introduced to the obvious and subtle symptoms exhibited by female autism. Strategies and approaches drawn from a social-emotional curriculum will be discussed.
