Pathological Demand Avoidance: From Misunderstanding to Awareness (K-12) Twilight event

PDA is considered to be a sub-type of ASD. Parents and teachers notice that the child won’t do anything that they are asked to do, even when it is a desirable activity. Children with PDA are highly anxious, which is why they tend to avoid real and perceived demands. Children with PDA can be quite social but at the same time controlling, which can impact on quality social interaction. In this workshop, participants will be introduced to the main features of PDA, how essential it is for educators and support staff to understand this condition, and how to support the student presenting with PDA.
