F2F Workshop

Evidence-based. Practical. Relevant. Actionable.

Hands-on. Work with others.

Making the IEP a Living Document

An Individual Education Plan (IEP) is a necessity for the student who requires time and practice in establishing new skills and content. Based on many decades of research, this workshop will allow you to learn about IEPs and how to implement them using a Multielement Curriculum Framework.

In this current climate, teachers are seeking more authentic information about their students with specific needs to ensure a successful academic year. All educators whether they are special education or generalist teachers have a responsibility in determining what and how curriculum will be taught within the inclusive classroom for the student with specific needs. The IEP is the document that will contain all this information and it becomes the road map for the mainstream or specialist classroom teacher.

Now more than ever, with the emphasis on inclusion, mainstream teachers will refer to the IEP to guide them in creating relevant and authentic learning experiences, however, this is only part of the picture. Successful inclusion is more likely to occur when teachers are able activate the IEP for the student using a Multielement Curriculum Framework (MCF). The MCF uses a simple coding technique that enables a teacher to plan for the type and level of inclusion that assures successful learning outcomes for this student.

Through information sharing, case scenarios, discussion, and hands-on activities, participants will become more equipped to develop observable and measurable goals and implement these goals inclusively.

This workshop will allow you to:

  • Learn to write goals with fidelity using the "ABCD" method.
  • Learn to analyse goals to see if they pass the “stranger test.”
  • Learn about the Multielement Curriculum Framework to activate the IEP and how to use it.
